Week Without Driving: Help Us See DeForest From Your Perspective

October 1–8, 2026

What is it like to get around DeForest when you don’t drive?

During Week Without Driving, we’re encouraging residents, community leaders, and Village staff to think about how we move around our community—and to learn from the people who already navigate their daily lives without driving.

An estimated 30–40% of Dane County residents don’t drive, whether because of age, disability, access to a vehicle, cost, or personal choice. For many people, getting to work, school, appointments, shopping, parks, or other destinations without driving is an everyday reality.

Why Week Without Driving?

The Village Board approved Resolution 2026-109 on September 15, 2026, supporting the Village’s participation in Week Without Driving, October 1–8.

The resolution recognizes the importance of understanding how residents who do not drive—or who choose not to drive—experience getting around our community. Week Without Driving provides an opportunity for residents, Village staff, and community leaders to learn from those experiences and identify opportunities to make DeForest more accessible and connected for everyone.

We’d love to learn from you! During Week Without Driving, Village staff and community leaders may have opportunities to connect with residents who regularly walk, bike, roll, use transit, carpool, or otherwise get around without driving. You can help us better understand: ▪️What makes getting around without a car work for you? ▪️Barriers or challenges you experience? ▪️Gaps in sidewalks, crossings, bike facilities, or other connections? ▪️Places that are difficult to reach without driving? ▪️Ideas for making DeForest easier to navigate for everyone?
